In the draft budget for 2023, the Portuguese government proposed to introduce a 28% income tax on cryptocurrencies.
The tax will only be levied on assets held by citizens for less than a year, while profits from cryptocurrencies held for longer than this period of time will still not be taxed.
According to the document, cryptocurrency transactions will also be taxed at a rate of 4%, which will apply to fees charged by intermediaries.
